Tom Pool Bio

Background and Education

  • Born and attended public schools in eastern Washington
  • Graduated from University of Washington in Economics
  • Active Duty in US Navy — Intelligence Officer
  • Retired after twenty-five years in Navy Reserve
  • Four years as local police officer and detective — Officer of the Year Award


Drug Free Business

  • Executive Director – 1995 to 2015
  • Vice Chairman Board of Directors 1989 – 1995
  • Editor of the Drug-Free Advantage  on drug-free workplace issues
  • Co-founder of this non-profit organization 1989
  • DFB currently has over 3,000 member companies


Drug Enforcement Administration

  • Retired after twenty-one years with DEA, stationed in Seattle, El Paso, Ft. Lauderdale, and Dallas
  • Positions/Assignments  in DEA
    • Special Agent/Criminal Investigator — extensive undercover assignments and work in Mexico — First Continuing Criminal Enterprise (Drug Kingpin) conviction in Texas
    • Enforcement Supervisor — South Florida Joint Task Force
    • Supervised DEA Training in Texas and Oklahoma
    • Special Agent Recruiter — Special Award for minority recruiting
    • Equal Employment Opportunity counselor
    • Member of DEA National Demand Reduction Advisory Council
  • Returned to Seattle in 1988 with full time duties as Demand Reduction Coordinator / Drug Prevention Specialist for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska
