Senior Global Safety Program Manager (3/15/10)

The Senior Global Safety Program Manager will assist our fulfillment network in achieving their objectives in ensuring a safe and healthful working environment by identifying risks and unsafe practices, driving the operations global peer review process, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and partnering with the fulfillment centers and global safety teams. By leveraging Lean principles, Global Safety Policies, 5S Standards, participating in and overseeing safety Kaizen efforts, and seeking to improve ergonomics and error-proof our processes to reduce risks, this position will assist Amazon in reaching our injury prevention and global regulatory compliance goals.

Working with corporate and field stakeholders, this position also will oversee the creation and continuous improvement of guidance materials that enable understanding, execution and supervision of operations responsibilities under the Amazon.com Safety & Environmental Excellence Program. Advocating for the needs of each region, this position will partner with the sites in achieving a global consistency around safety and environmental execution, ensuring Amazon performs to all published Safety and Environmental standards. This position will maintain the Global Safety Policies, coordinate global safety initiates and develop the handbook for all Associates and operations leaders to successfully execute to safety and environmental performance standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review the Global Safety Policies and revise as needed based on known risks and improvement opportunities identified through safety best practices;
  • Perform regular gap analysis to best justify funds for site safety improvements and react to Associate feedback;
  • Understand the safety and environmental responsibilities in each region where Amazon.com has operations;
  • Oversee global safety performance metrics reporting and communication;
  • Assist in communication, training, and execution of the Safety & Environmental Programs throughout the global operations network;
  • Review for effectiveness the deployed tools and revise to ensure continual improvement in the global implementation of best practices in safety and environmental matters;
  • Partner with corporate and field safety personnel to leverage global safety and environmental best practices into network standards.

This position will be filled by an individual who is passionate and knowledgeable about safety and environmental responsibilities in one or more of the regions where Fulfillment Centers (FCs) are located (Asia, EU or US).

Experience:

  • Experience developing safety and/or environmental policy, training, and quality assurance materials;
  • 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations;
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Willing to travel, up to 30%

General safety responsibilities include:

  • Identifying safety risks, injury trends, training needs and equipment needs and recommends ways to effectively address them.
  • Ensuring each department has an effective safety & wellness programs.
  • Monitoring mandatory health and safety training and arranges for or provides the training according to the schedule.
  • Company-wide compliance with OSHA, state and federal health and safety regulations.

Workers' Compensation:

  • Maintaining Workers' Compensation records, tracking progress on all Work Comp claims and filing all required government reports relative to Workers' Comp. claims.
  • Ensuring all work related injuries requiring outside medical treatment are followed by a drug test.
  • Following-up on all Workers' Comp. claims, including retraining, investigations and early-return-to-work.
  • Liaison to ESGW's Workers' Comp. carriers and other agents.

Wellness Program:

  • Developing ongoing wellness activities.

At least three years experience in managing a workplace safety program. Extensive knowledge of safety best practices and laws and Worker Compensation procedures required. Excellent oral, written, and computer communication skill. Extensive travel. Experience with CARF accreditation a plus. Excellent salary and benefits.

Safety Manager (2/2/10)

Salary: 82,070.56 Annually

The Safety Manager is responsible for formulation and implementation of long-range and comprehensive safety, training and loss control programs for Tribal programs and/or entities. The Safety Manager is a consultant and advisor providing support and technical assistance in administration of, and compliance with, federal, state, local, and Tribal requirements (as applicable). The Safety Manager maintains compliance with environmental, safety, and governmental regulations by identifying and analyzing problems, finalizing suggestions and making recommendations for improvements. The Safety Manager performs audits to ensure locations are compliant and oversees workers’ compensation, occupational safety and related programs to the conformance of company philosophies and business objectives.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities: This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

1. Designs and directs programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses and exposure to long-term health hazards.

2. Develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the Tribe. Manages and coordinates safety activities to ensure implementation of safety initiatives throughout the organization by supporting management in the implementation of safety solutions to enhance operational performance.

3. Works, as directed by the Risk Manager, to implement and monitor global Enterprise safety, training, and loss control programs.

4. Coordinates with Tribal programs and/or enterprises to conduct safety training of management and staff which includes proper safety instruction and new employee safety orientation. Delivers clear and well-organized safety training information and materials to a diverse audience using appropriate language and illustrations.

5. Maintains compliance with applicable Federal and local regulations, including OSHA and DOL compliance (as applicable).

6. Conducts or directs research studies to identify hazards and evaluate loss producing potential of given system, operation, or process. Assists with planned job observations, job analysis, disposal procedures and personal protective and other safety equipment.

7. Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports and related recommendations. Responsible for providing regular status reports for each program and/or enterprise regarding safety, training and loss control.

8. Conducts monthly safety meetings, reviewing incidents and accidents, hazardous materials training, material data safety sheets and work station inspections. Assists Tribal programs and/or enterprises in developing emergency plans, emergency preparedness, physical protection and safety procedures.

9. Serves as a litigation contact for Tribal Legal relating to patron injuries or incidents as directed by the Risk Manager.

10. Serves as a liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.

11. Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related professional organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.

12. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

Required Education, Experience and Training: Bachelor’s degree in safety, operations, engineering or business related field consistent with the requirements of the position. Five (5) years combined management experience in safety and training. Regulatory training or experience with OSHA, EPA and FDA; knowledge of Washington Workers’ Compensation regulations and claims; available to attend off-shift meetings and address off-shift issues; ability to interact and communicate with all departments and all levels of employees. RIMS or PRIMA designation preferred. Experience in public entity safety and training management or the gaming/entertainment/hospitality industry preferred.

Required Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and trends, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and company policies and procedures. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the business culture and overall goals of a Tribal organization. Must be able to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and the highest degree of ethics in all aspects of job performance. Skill in: Superior oral and written communications. Thorough knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and technical applications related to risk and safety. Researching data and information, preparing and analyzing statistical and narrative reports and information. Must have a high degree of organizational and analytical skills, initiative and discipline necessary to consistently perform job duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, Tribal officials, and vendors. Ability to respond to inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or community members.

The employee is frequently required to sit and talk, walk, stand, hear and observe; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to drive a motor vehicle and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Depending on location, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.
